Why I Chose Culmore Clinic

It’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.

One of our wonderful volunteers, Debbie Kirzane, brought us some heartwarming news this month. Her grandchildren, Jeremiah (10), and Esther (8), were inspired by their grandma to make a donation to Culmore Clinic. Below are the letters that arrived with the donation.

Jeremiah Kirzane, Age 10

Food, health, home, environment. There were so many choices of charity. I wanted to do a health charity, a place that gives free healthcare to the poor. And I wanted to do a local charity, not a giant one. Me and my sister give $1 to charity each week, and we had to choose one to give all the savings to. When our gramma told us about this cool place, that gave free healthcare, and needed a little help to grow, so I could make a difference, and that it was local, too, I was very excited, and wanted to donate there! And that is how I ended up giving to Culmore Clinic.

Esther Kirzane, Age 8

Walking down the streets of Chicago, I see some poor people. I feel sorry for them and feel like I can help. I hate seeing poor people on the streets or sidewalks especially if they have kids. When I walk by them I notice health problems. I figure they don't have enough money to pay for doctors. My grandma (she volunteers) told me about this place and me and my brother were interested. She told us how they didn't have enough money to keep all the tools that they need to keep people healthy. So me and my brother Jeremiah decided to donate our money (tzedakah) to them!

We are incredibly grateful to Jeremiah, Esther and their grandmother Debbie!
